Man who blamed Crocs for driving into gas station pleads guilty

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man from Springfield pleaded guilty and was given five years of supervised probation on Monday, Aug. 25, after he crashed his car into a Kum & Go in Springfield earlier this year.

Dale Hamit pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident with property damage exceeding $1,000. He may be sentenced to jail time if he violates the terms of his supervised probation.

On Feb. 27, 2025, Hamit was seen crashing into the front of the Kum & Go on South Campbell Avenue with a pickup truck, breaking two large front windows and causing an estimated $3,700 worth of damage, according to court documents. Hamit quickly left the scene of the crash and did not provide information to anybody.

When Hamit returned to the Kum & Go, a Springfield police officer in the store questioned him about the crash. He initially denied being involved, but security camera footage showed his truck was the same one that crashed into the building, along with Hamit exiting the vehicle…
