RENO, NV (Aug. 24) — As August is winding down there is a flurry of events and meets. It’s a busy time for race and car fans.
• Saturday got started with the Cars and Stripes car, truck and motorcycle show. It all happened at the parking lot in front of the Sportsman’s Warehouse.
There was a huge variety of cars and trucks on display. Several rows in the parking lot were full of all types of vehicles.
One unusual car was an early post war BMW. There were very small and at one time sold in America.
Before lunch was served the colors were presented with the honor guard from the Fernley Veteran’s Cemetery. Joining them were members of the North Valley’s JROTC, whose members did some research and recreated WW II Army uniforms.
After presenting the colors there was a prayer and blessing. Close by the Vet Center had a van and Honor Flight Nevada was having its fund raising drawing. They were only two of the groups present.
All in all it was a good time for car fans as well as the veteran organizations. There were even some vintage military vehicles.
• That evening there was a Cruise-In at the Summit Mall. The occasion was for Cars & Cream that featured Handels Ice Cream store. In fact the store was handing out 2 for 1 coupons plus selling water and soda.
The cars took up at least four rows of the parking lot. In one row there was a trio of exotics where two Lamborghini’s were parked next to a Porsche and two were essentially the same color.
That same row had a woman who brought her Shelby GT500 Mustang.
Most people wandered around checking all the cars on display then would head to the ice cream shop…
