BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Much of Western North Carolina returned to the classroom on Monday, Aug. 25, including Buncombe County, McDowell County, Transylvania County, Macon County, Graham County, Cherokee County and McDowell County Schools, as well as Asheville City Schools.

Forty-five schools in Buncombe County welcomed students back from summer break on Monday.
This is the first full school year since Hurricane Helene, and while Buncombe County students had to make up missed class time over the summer, administrators say they are ready for the year.
