Bakersfield PD to receive $75k state grant funding to reduce alcohol-related crimes, underage drinking

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department is set to receive grant funding that would contribute to the department’s efforts to reduce alcohol-related crimes in the city.

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has awarded a $75,000 grant to the city of Bakersfield, according to the agenda for the Bakersfield City Council meeting.

The funding came from the state department’s Alcohol Policing Partnership Grant Program, which works with law enforcement agencies to get rid of crime and public nuisance issues involving alcohol. The grant will be used to create an Alcohol Enforcement Team at BPD, the agenda said.

The team is expected to use programs listed below:

  • Minor Decoy: Aims to educate and discourage licensed locations from selling or giving alcohol to minors, for both on-sale and off-sale licensees.
  • Shoulder Tap: Seeks to find and prevent adults buying alcohol for minors outside of licensed locations.
  • Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendencies (IMPACT) inspections: Educate licensees on alcohol-related laws to help reduce alcohol-related crimes in or near licensed locations by visiting and inspecting licensed premises.
