KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Members of the Knoxville community gathered for a town hall meeting on Monday night concerning the future of Chilhowee Park. A vote to potentially sell part of the park to the Emerald Youth Foundation was delayed last week amid the divided public opinion.
Sixth District Councilmember Gwen McKenzie, whose district includes the park, held a town hall meeting in East Knoxville to discuss the proposal and the park’s future. The meeting centered on the Emerald Youth Foundation’s proposal to use the Tennessee Valley Fair’s midway space, sparking a push for transparency and community input.

“Just an opportunity because one of the things is that I did not have a meeting during this process, and this is something that Emerald had meetings for about three years. And so I just felt like I needed to have this meeting so all voices could be heard,” McKenzie said.
