VBPD seizes 200+ birds suspected in cockfighting ring

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – More than 200 birds were seized as part of a suspected cockfighting ring in Virginia Beach, police said Monday.

Virginia Beach Police’s Special Operations and Special Investigations bureaus went to the 600 block of Princess Anne Road for a suspected cockfighting operation, with the initial investigation, police said, sparked by resident complaints about unaccompanied aggressive dogs on the loose at the property.

Police said surveillance later indicated a large number of birds on the premises, and they said the homeowner and the owner of the birds “willingly surrendered” 213 birds, including 36 adult roosters and two injured birds that they said were humanely euthanized…
