Garland ISD expands free meal program as other Texas districts raise prices

TEXAS — Rising food and labor costs are hitting school cafeterias across Texas, and many families are paying more at the lunch line.

This year, Frisco Independent School District raised the price of a high school lunch to $4, up from $3.75. Argyle Independent School District increased lunches to $5, up from $4.75. Georgetown Independent School District added 10 cents to its meals.

But in Garland Independent School District, leaders are focused on keeping meals free. The district is expanding the Community Eligibility Provision, a federal program that allows qualifying campuses to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to every student…
