Lafayette’s largest walking parade, Krewe de Canailles, has revealed the theme for its 2026 Mardi Gras parade: “Roadside Attractions.” The announcement came during a reveal party on Sunday, kicking off the buildup for what will be the krewe’s 9th annual parade.
The event is set for Friday, February 6, 2026, at 7 p.m. in Downtown Lafayette, and organizers are encouraging anyone 21 and older to get involved by becoming members.
A Celebration of the Strange and Quirky
The theme pays homage to the unforgettable gems you stumble upon while traveling Louisiana’s backroads and beyond, from quirky churches and UFO landing sites to “fonky” couches, gas station boudin, and “World’s Largest Whatever” landmarks.

“If it makes you laugh, scratch your head, or slam on the brakes, it belongs in the parade,” organizers said. The krewe promises that this year’s event won’t just be a parade, but a love letter to the weird, wild detours that make road trips so memorable.
Membership and Registration
Membership is now open, with pricing structured around how early participants register:
- Early Bird Special (Aug. 24 – Aug. 31): $50
- Perfectly Reasonable (Sept. 1 – Dec. 7): $60
- Holiday Panic (Dec. 8 – Jan. 23): $75
Each membership includes parade participation, food, and entry to the annual KDC After Party.
A Parade with Purpose
Beyond the fun, Krewe de Canailles is known for its commitment to creativity, inclusivity, and sustainability. Floats are human-powered, and participants are encouraged to use environmentally friendly throws. The krewe prides itself on being “a parade for the people, by the people.”
