LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Housing pods for the homeless are coming to Lansing and there was a lot of discussion about it at a meeting called by the city’s Human Relations and Community Services department (HRCS) at the Foster Community Center Tuesday night.
The city recently purchased 50 housing pods to help with the homeless population. On Tuesday, dozens gathered, many with experience working with the unhoused, to have a conversation on how to go about integrating the pods into the community.
HRCS Director Kimberly Coleman said the organization’s Advisory Board wants to have all 50 pods in the same spot. Tuesday’s conversation included where they should be located, the rules surrounding the pods, and what that will look like financially.
