MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Governor Kay Ivey has authorized the deployment of select members of the Alabama National Guard to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a federal operation focused on processing non-citizens with criminal records for deportation.
The deployment is part of a broader, nationwide mobilization of National Guard units across 19 states, including Alabama, aimed at supporting the Department of Homeland Security’s ongoing immigration enforcement efforts. The federal operation, which will run from late August through mid-November, aligns with President Donald Trump’s renewed push to address illegal immigration and crime under his “Make America Safe Again” initiative.
According to defense officials, National Guard members will assist ICE primarily through non-combat support roles such as case management, transportation, and administrative processing.
