A suspected thief was apprehended by a police officer armed with a taser at a shopping plaza in The Villages.
A loss prevention officer at Target at Rolling Acres Plaza contacted law enforcement at about 7 p.m. Friday to report that a theft suspect fled the store on a bicycle, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Steven Rey Segura of Summerfield, was spotted behind the nearby Bed Bath and Beyond at La Plaza Grande. An officer ordered Segura to dismount the bicycle and put his hands on a wall. The officer, armed with a taser, also ordered Segura not to reach for his pants. Segura previously told the officer he was in possession of a knife. Segura reached for his pocket, despite the officer’s warning, but it was quickly determined he had reached for his phone. During a pat down, he was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and 7 grams of methamphetamine.
He was arrested on charges of theft, resisting arrest, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $6,500 bond…
