Falls Village man sentenced to 1 year in prison for role in fatal Salisbury crash

TORRINGTON — A Falls Village man was sentenced to one year in prison Tuesday for his role in a 2023 crash in Salisbury that caused the death of his passenger, a person he called his best friend.

State police say an SUV was speeding eastbound when it crashed  into a utility pole on Route 44 (Canaan Road) near Twin Lakes Road on July 6, 2023.

The driver, Robert Steinmetz, now 21, suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said. The passenger, Jason M. Titunik, 19, of Sarasota, Florida, was transported to Sharon Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died…
