‘I know he’s proud of me’: Man opens Rohnert Park tackle shop in memory of his best friend

Mike Knott still remembers feeling the absence left by his best friend and fishing companion the first time he boarded a boat without him.

“The first week, I honestly didn’t know if I was ever going to be able to fish again. I was like, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to be able to do it again. It’s just going to make me think of him all the time and I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to enjoy it,’” Knott said.

Knott’s best friend, Brent Nelson, died in a car crash in 2016 when he was 25 years old. The pair met at Cardinal Newman High School and bonded over fishing along with their friend Karl Kobler…
