Toledo officer accused of theft at Walmart, banned from all stores

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo Police officer is facing charges after investigators say he is accused of stealing from Walmart stores in both Holland and Toledo, including once while wearing a department T-shirt.

Officer Gregory Long, 42, is charged with two counts of theft in Holland following two incidents at the Walmart on McCord Road and Spring Meadows Drive. A Holland Police report states that on May 22, Long was captured on video at a self-checkout, bagging but not scanning a $1.97 block of Great Value mild cheddar cheese. Less than two weeks later, on June 4, he allegedly failed to scan cinnamon sticks and two razor blades valued at $28.92. The combined total of merchandise from both incidents was $30.89.

Police say the investigation began after Walmart loss prevention workers at the Glendale Avenue store in Toledo flagged suspicious activity involving Long. They notified the Holland location, where investigators then reviewed security footage. Detectives compared checkout video to parking lot footage of Long’s vehicle, matching both to his license plate and Bureau of Motor Vehicles records…
