Man charged in crash that killed 17-year-old Good Samaritan

JOHNSON COUNTY—A Kansas man faces charges for a fatal crash that killed a Kansas teen last summer.

On Thursday Matthew Thomas Bray, 49, was charged with aggravated battery while driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm, according to the Johnson County District Attorney’s office.

In July of 2024, a vehicle driven by Bray struck and killed a pedestrian identified as Benjamin D. Van Buskirk, 17, Olathe, who ran across lanes of traffic to offer assistance to a driver involved in another accident…
