Pierce County Chase Ends with PIT Maneuver, Four Juveniles in Custody After Pursuit of Stolen Car

Early in the morning of August 20, a pursuit unfolded in Pierce County after a Puyallup police officer identified a stolen vehicle. According to a social media post by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the car, pilfered from the Spanaway area, was spotted around 2:30 am near 112th St. S and Pacific Ave. S. An attempted traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase when the car fled eastbound on 112th Street, towards Portland Ave, eventually merging onto SR 512 after a deft deployment of stop sticks by law enforcement.

The brief but intense chase, with speeds clocked up to 98 mph, was brought to a halt by a pursuit intervention technique, known as a PIT maneuver. After the vehicle stopped, four juveniles darted from the car, trying to find refuge in the heavy brush along the highway.
