Firefighters Extinguish Blaze at Abandoned Kahala Residence Amid Hoarding Challenges

Early morning on August 24, a fire broke out at an abandoned residence in Kahala, Honolulu. The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a 911 call at 3:34 a.m. and arrived seven minutes later to find a working fire at the back of the property located at 3986 Kaualio Place. According to an official report by the Honolulu Fire Department, the blaze was successfully extinguished, with no injuries reported among the responding crew.

The fire scenario was compounded by hoarding conditions within the house and structural instability, including a partially collapsed roof. This was made to directly challenge the firefighter’s ability to navigate and control the situation. In total, 11 units comprising 42 personnel were deployed to the site. The department’s firefighters were able to secure a water supply and forcibly enter through several boarded doors to combat the flames.
