Alameda DA files attempted murder charges against Newark man suspected in stabbing

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed attempted murder charges against an 18-year-old Newark man suspected of stabbing another person, officials said Monday.

Newark police officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on the 5600 block of Thornton Avenue on Aug. 19 at 11:36 p.m., and discovered an adult victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and was last listed in stable condition, officials said. The victim’s identity was not released.

The suspect was identified as Luis McLaughlin Jr. Police said they could not identify a connection between the victim and the suspect, and based on their investigations, McLaughlin’s motivation for the incident appeared to be a “desire for notoriety.”…
