Harrisburg man leads Troopers on drunken chase through Shippensburg with kid in the car, ends with a crash into cop car, PSP say

SHIPPENSBURG- A Harrisburg man is behind bars after a single rolling stop at a stop sign led to a high speed chase throughout Shippensburg streets. Larry Michael Copeland failed to post bail of $50,000 after being charged with felony fleeing an officer, felony endangering the welfare of a child, two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, three misdemeanor counts of DUI, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and seven total traffic citations. He remains incarcerated in Cumberland County Prison.

Pennsylvania State Police say that they were on regular patrol on Britton Road, Shippensburg Township around 11:23pm on August 22nd when they spotted a vehicle roll through a posted stop sign at the intersection of Fort Street and N Queens Street. After turning around to follow the vehicle, Troopers say it pulled into a driveway on Britton Road and the driver, Larry Copeland, got out. That is when Copeland was told by Troopers to get back in his vehicle due to it being a traffic stop. Instead, PSP say that Copeland got back into his vehicle and fled.

During the subsequent chase, PSP say that Copeland traveled north on Britton Road at speeds in excess of 100mph before he stopped his vehicle along the roadway to allow “his son, a juvenile…to exit the vehicle.” Copeland would then allegedly make a U-turn in a yard and begin fleeing south on Britton Rd…
