Human leg discovery reignites search for Tennessee mother and daughter missing since 2004

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A chilling discovery in Robertson County is breathing new life into a nearly 20-year-old cold case.

Investigators say a human leg found in Sulphur Fork Creek in Springfield on July 4, 2025, has been identified through DNA testing as belonging to 68-year-old Joseph Frank Benton, Sr.

For private investigator Buddy Mitchell, who has spent 15 years working this case, the discovery has intensified his search for Jennifer Wix and her 2-year-old daughter, Adrianna, who disappeared on March 25, 2004.

Mitchell says he recently obtained a transcript from an interview with Benton’s son, “Joey” that he believes could finally bring answers…
