Virginia Police Seize Over 200 Birds From Suspected Cockfighting Operation

Complaints about aggressive, loose dogs on a Virginia property led police to discover and confiscate “hundreds” of birds from a suspected cockfighting operation.

The Virginia Beach Police Department said its investigation began when neighbors complained about “aggressive dogs on the loose” at a property on the 600 block of Princess Anne Road. Police surveilled the property and discovered a large number of birds.

The police department’s Special Operations and Special Investigations bureaus responded to the property on the morning of Aug. 22, and the homeowner and owner of the birds “willingly surrendered” 213 birds, including 36 adult roosters and two injured birds that had to be euthanized…
