Incumbents Sherman Collins Jr., Derek Billups and Leticia W. Harvill are headed back to the Birmingham City Board of Education after being reelected Tuesday night, but it appears runoffs will be needed to settle the winners in three of the seats.
Candidates in Districts 2, 8 and 9 did not receive the 50% plus 1 vote needed to win those races outright. Runoffs will be held Oct. 7.
With three board members running unopposed for reelection, six incumbents will be turning to the nine-member board after the elections.
