Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Fatal Minneapolis Shooting

A man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the 2024 shooting death of 55-year-old Carl Woodard in north Minneapolis.

Dameon Markese Collins, 24, pleaded guilty in June 2025 to second-degree intentional murder and admitted to firing 23 shots at Woodard on June 28, 2024.

According to court records, the shooting happened around 10:51 p.m. on the 3500 block of Penn Avenue North. Investigators found Woodard unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a car that had been struck by at least 13 bullets. He was pronounced dead a short time later. Officers recovered 23 shell casings from behind a fence that lined up with the passenger side of Woodard’s vehicle.
