In an effort to aid residents facing the summer heat, the City of Charlotte in partnership with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is stepping up by providing free air conditioning units to those who may find themselves financially strapped. The offer targets residents living at or below 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI), giving them a chance to get some relief from the heat. As reported by the City of Charlotte yesterday, eligible individuals must grab this opportunity on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., before the units are all claimed.
Those interested must head over to two locations for pickup — the Eastway Regional Recreation Center and the Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center. When they pick up their free AC unit, the eager residents must provide a valid photo ID, on a first-come, first-served basis.
However, before they can bask in the cool airflow of their new AC, there’s a necessary step each applicant must take.
