PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — One of the fastest trains in the United States passed through Providence on Wednesday.
Amtrak’s new “NextGen Acela” trains will start transporting passengers on Thursday, traveling between Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C., with a top speed of 160 mph.
Margaret Clark, Amtrak’s manager of government affairs, noted that in addition to Providence, the trains will also stop in New Haven, Newark, Philadelphia and Baltimore.

“It’s more trains, more seats and a faster ride up and down the Northeast Corridor,” Clark said. “We’re going to have more departures so that it’s going to allow people to have more choices.”…
