‘Safety is the first concern’: BJ’s gas station to close for six weeks for renovations

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Those getting gas at BJ’s this week will find a notice on the gas pumps saying the gas station will be closed for six weeks for renovations starting Sept. 15.

The gas station’s pumps have brought in many customers, but as a result, lines of cars waiting for the pumps have flowed out into public roads and blocked traffic.

DeWitt Police said there have been nearly 100 collisions in the area from 2024 to 2025. Eight were in the gas area. 76 were in the parking lot or nearby.

Here are the collision numbers from DeWitt Police

In 2024, there were 42 total motor vehicle collisions within or immediately adjacent to BJ’s Wholesale Club.

  • 5 were in the gas area.
  • 37 were in the general parking lot area/adjacent areas.
  • Accident Type:
    • 34 – damage only, no injuries.
    • 8 – the vehicle at fault left the scene prior to police arrival.
    • 0 – collisions with injuries.

In 2025, so far, there have been 42 (coincidentally same number as above), total motor vehicle collisions within or immediately adjacent to BJ’s Wholesale Club.

  • 3 were in the gas area.
  • 39 were in the general parking lot area/adjacent areas.
  • Accident Type
    • 26 – damage only, no injuries.
    • 14 – the vehicle at fault left the scene prior to police arrival.
    • 2 – collisions with injuries.
