A bus driver and three passengers are safe after a Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority bus caught fire in the Walmart parking lot in Altoona.
Buses on DART’s Altoona Express Route 99 to and from downtown Des Moines are scheduled to depart at 4:25 p.m. each weekday from the Walmart in Altoona at 3501 Eighth St. SW. But at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25, the Altoona Fire Department responded to a bus on fire and found flames and heavy smoke coming from its rear engine compartment, according to a fire department news release.
