Wichita police respond to fight at West High

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita police say a security officer was knocked unconscious while trying to break up a fight at West High School on Wednesday.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. when officers responded to an “officer-in-trouble” call at the school, 820 S. Osage. Police said the altercation began as a fight between two students, a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl.

According to WPD, while a USD 259 security officer attempted to intervene, the 17-year-old struck the officer in the head, causing the officer to lose consciousness. The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police arrested the 17-year-old, who was also taken to a hospital for an unknown injury before being booked into the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center on charges of aggravated battery, battery of a security officer, and resisting arrest…
