Two years after the Eagle Senior Center nonprofit moved out of its longtime home in a city-owned building, a jury found the City of Eagle and former Mayor Jason Pierce violated the nonprofit’s constitutional rights.
On Friday, a jury sided with the nonprofit Eagle Senior Citizens Inc., which had run the city’s senior center services for decades, in its lawsuit alleging a breach of contract and Fourth Amendment violations. This was in the wake of the Pierce administration and all members of the city council terminating the group’s lease in 2023. The group took issue with Pierce placing a camera inside the senior center leading up to the group’s move out of the building, the city changing the locks prior to the lease being up, and taking possession of items inside the building before the nonprofit could relocate them to their new location.
The jury decision, which was not unanimous on every count, found the City of Eagle both breached the nonprofit’s contract and violated the group’s constitutional rights. The group was awarded $2,500 in damages for this, plus another $1 in damages for Pierce’s violation of their rights.
