On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 12:15 a.m., two graveyard officers with the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD), working a two-officer Adam Unit, were on proactive patrol when they attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the area of Huntington Street and Portland Circle. A pursuit immediately ensued.
At Adams Avenue and Main Street, the suspect was involved in a solo collision and fled on foot. The suspect was later identified as Anh Tran, 33, of Garden Grove. Officers saw Tran exit his vehicle with a shotgun. As officers chased on foot, the shotgun was discharged. The officers stopped and responding officers set up a containment perimeter.
Air Support Unit HB1 responded and later located Tran hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1700 block of Shipley Street. With the assistance of HB1’s Tactical Flight Officer, officers coordinated a strategic approach, also using our armored vehicle for protection.
