Kalamazoo Veterans Service Office unused by thousands of local veterans

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — More than 12,000 veterans live in Kalamazoo County, but officials say only about 3,500 are using the benefits and programs available to them.

Now, county leaders are working to connect more veterans to the resources they’ve earned, from healthcare and housing help to food vouchers and transportation assistance.

“We really encourage veterans to come in and explore their benefits,” Lauren King, supervisor with Kalamazoo County Veterans Services, said. “You may be eligible for something right now and not even know it.”
