San Diego County Inmate Dies of Overdose at Las Colinas Detention Facility, Sheriff’s Office Launches Investigation

A 31-year-old San Diego County woman, Callen Lines, was found unresponsive in her cell at Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility and later pronounced dead, triggering an investigation into her death. According to a statement from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, Lines had been in custody since May 11, on various theft-related charges, which included vehicle theft and resisting an officer.

During an established routine check on the evening of May 12 at around 7:25 p.m., sergeants discovered Lines unresponsive, immediately calling for assistance and initiating CPR with the facility’s medical staff, who quickly arrived on the scene, as outlined by the Sheriff’s Office. Despite lifesaving efforts taken by paramedics and the Santee Fire Department, who took over upon their arrival and transported her to a local hospital, Lines was declared dead by approximately 8:15 p.m., as stated in a report by Hoodline.

The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is heading the investigation of Lines’ death under the monitoring of the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB). Additionally, the Medical Examiner’s Office has conducted an autopsy, revealing the cause of death as fentanyl and methamphetamine toxicity and ruling it an accident.
