Syracuse University Chancellor to step down in June 2026

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse University (SU) Chancellor and Irondequoit native Kent Syverud has announced he is stepping down from his role.

In a letter addressed to students and staff, Syverud said he will officially be leaving in June 2026. Syverud has been the chancellor since 2013.

In his letter, he called his time at SU the “greatest privilege” of his career. He also showed his gratitude for his leadership team, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. He also thanked the Board of Trustees for the “faith,” they placed in him back in 2013, and for their trust and partnership over the years…
