El Paso scammer faces prison for massive real estate fraud

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man is facing time in prison for a massive real estate fraud scheme since at least 2017, targeting multiple homeowners and buyers in the process, El Paso District Attorney James Montoya announced during a press conference on Thursday, Aug. 28.

The news conference was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the El Paso County Courthouse. Montoya said the purpose of the news conference was to raise awareness of fraud schemes that can target the El Paso community, as well as to look for more possible victims of Dennis.

Victor Bernard Dennis is a clear example of it. Not being a licensed real estate agent, he scammed multiple people throughout the County and was sentenced to over two decades in prison, the chief of the White-Collar Unit for the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office, Erin Delaney Matney, said during the news conference.

In 2019, law enforcement presented a case in which Dennis was targeting members of the military who needed to sell their house quickly because they were being relocated out of the El Paso area…
