Shots Fired at Lubbock County Deputy: Three Arrested, One Released

A frightening scene unfolded late Wednesday night in Central Lubbock after a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputy came under fire while searching for a wanted felon. Authorities say the deputy, who was driving an unmarked vehicle near 34th Street and Salem Avenue around 10 p.m., was suddenly ambushed by gunfire.

Multiple rounds struck the vehicle, disabling it and forcing the deputy to stop. Miraculously, he was not hit and escaped the incident without injury.

Immediate Response

Within moments, backup from the Lubbock Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived in the area. The quick response allowed officers to detain four individuals suspected of involvement in the shooting. Authorities recovered four separate firearms during the arrests.

One of those individuals was later released, but three remain in custody at the Lubbock County Detention Center facing a long list of charges.

Arrested Individuals and Charges

Jaime Flores, 26, was arrested on:

  • Three counts of unlawful carrying of a weapon

  • Evading on foot

  • Tampering with evidence

Devin Hernandez, 19, faces charges including:

  • Deadly conduct

  • Unlawful carrying of a weapon

  • Evading on foot

  • Discharge of a firearm within a municipality

Tamajhe Turner, 25, was booked on:

  • Deadly conduct

  • Evading on foot

  • Possession of marijuana (4 ounces to 5 pounds)

  • Two counts of unlawful carrying of a weapon

  • Tampering with evidence

  • Discharge of a firearm in a municipality

The fourth suspect detained at the scene was questioned and later released without charges.

Bullets Strike Home in Central Lubbock

In addition to the deputy’s vehicle, law enforcement confirmed that a nearby residence in the 4600 block of 33rd Street was also struck by gunfire during the incident. Thankfully, no one inside the home was injured.
