Yorkville mayor says changes likely to public camping ban after public outcry

Yorkville City Hall says amendments are coming for a ban on what is termed “public camping” after outcry from the community and an over week-long protest camp outside city hall. Advocates for the homeless say the ordinance, passed earlier this month with very little discussion from aldermen, will unfairly target the unhoused.

Many community members spoke at Tuesday’s city council meeting requesting the ordinance be amended or repealed, including some who have experienced homelessness.
