BUFFALO, N.Y. — When Asia first encountered Family Promise of Western New York (FPWNY), she was a teenager facing homelessness with her mother. Years later, as a mother herself, Asia found herself in need again—and Family Promise was there to help. “They helped us find a place. They helped shelter us, and they helped us find a home,” Asia recalled, her gratitude evident as she described the organization’s impact on her life.
Asia’s story is just one of many. On a recent move-out day at FPWNY’s Buffalo facility, Melissa, her husband, and their six children were preparing to leave the shelter for a new home after months of living in hotels. “It was like bricks just being lifted off of you,” Melissa said, describing the relief of finally having a stable place for her family. The journey wasn’t easy—her family had been split up, and her daughter’s medical needs made finding suitable housing even more challenging. But with the help of Family Promise, they secured not just a house, but a home.
