Kroger announced Tuesday it would be laying off nearly 1,000 employees among its corporate staff.
The Cincinnati-based grocery giant is looking to simplify the organization and reinvest in stores following the layoffs, Reuters reported. This comes as the company’s merger with fellow grocery chain Albertsons was blocked by a judge. Since the failed merger, Kroger announced it would be closing 60 underperforming stores over the next 18 months. The closures only represent 2% of the grocery giant’s national footprint.
Reuters, who acquired a memo from Kroger, reported the staff impacted work in the company’s corporate tier. Staff working in stores, manufacturing facilities or distribution centers are not affected by the layoffs…
