US 131 overpass near Grand Rapids closed after truck crash. What we know

A semi-truck that was too tall struck an overpass on U.S. 131 in Allegan County, south of Grand Rapids, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, damaging the bridge and forcing MDOT to close the span, possibly until 2026.

“Due to a high-load bridge hit on 146th Avenue over U.S. 131, southbound U.S. 131 is closed and traffic is being detoured at 84th Street. 146th Avenue is closed over U.S. 131,” MDOT said Tuesday night.

As of Wednesday morning, parts of U.S. 131 remained closed after the tractor-trailer, driving near Dorr, hit the overpass, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office. U.S. 131 reopened for traffic at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said…
