Ocala man falls asleep in minivan, wakes up to drug trafficking and firearm theft charges

A 40-year-old Ocala man who fell asleep behind the steering wheel of a minivan that was parked outside a local convenience store is facing felony charges after a large quantity of drugs was allegedly found inside his vehicle.

On Monday, August 25, at around 11:20 p.m., an Ocala Police Department Officer was dispatched to the Sunshine Food Mart (1402 NE 25th Avenue) in reference to a minivan that had been parked near the gas pumps for several hours, according to OPD.

The officer approached the minivan and observed that a man, later identified as Emory Quintell Manning, was sleeping in the driver’s seat. OPD stated that the officer also saw “suspected narcotics” inside the minivan, and Manning was ordered to exit the vehicle…
