Six hurt in rain-related, head-on crash near Mulvane

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Six people were hurt in a rain-related, head-on crash near Mulvane.

Mulvane Fire and Rescue says it happened around 6 a.m. this morning when two vehicles collided head-on near the Belle Plaine Y Junction with K-55. The department says water over the roadway is the likely cause of the crash.

Kansas Turnpike south of Wichita reopens after flooding

Mulvane Fire reports that the crash caused a traffic backup of 11 miles back to the U.S. 160 roundabout in Wellington. Mulvane Fire and EMS was assisted by Sumner County Fire in Belle Plaine and Wellington Fire and EMS.

Six people were taken to Wichita hospitals for treatment, but their current conditions are unknown. At the time of the crash, traffic was being diverted off the northbound lanes of the turnpike through Wellington and up to Mulvane due to water covering the road between mile markers 19 and 20…
