Video: Police speak to suspect of fatal downtown Albuquerque shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — A young man told police his friends were attacked, leading to a shooting that killed a man. Surveillance video shows the moment that he says his friend was slapped by an aggressive drunk man before they’re seen chasing after him in a car.

Isaiah Martinez was arrested on May 4. APD says his car was caught on camera near a shooting at 8th and Central. David Segura was shot early that morning, and died days later. Martinez told the officers that he loaned his car to a friend, later identified as Matthew Akugue.

“He was asking, begging me for my car while I was at my girlfriends. He came and scooped it and asked to go to this party,” said Martinez. “I don’t even know what he was doing. He came back for me around 2:30ish and that’s when I drove back home.” An officer told him they will search his home, car, and phone. “It’s gonna tell me exactly where you were bro. So this whole, I have no idea what happened, like time to be honest because we’re going to find out,” said the officer…
