Royal Family Drama: Public Loves the Mess, Says Expert
Rumors of reconciliation between Prince Harry and King Charles are swirling, but one royal expert suggests the ongoing family drama may be exactly what the public wants. Former royal photographer Ian Pelham Turner believes the public is more invested in the feud than a resolution. “There seems to be more energy in the split,” he observed, suggesting the situation isn’t a good look for the royals, likening it to the popular Netflix series, “The Crown.”
Turner argues that the royal family’s handling of the Sussexes’ departure in 2020 revealed an outdated approach. He believes Queen Elizabeth received poor advice when she denied Prince Harry’s request for a part-time royal role, a proposal he feels was perfectly reasonable given modern precedents set by other royal families.
Turner pointed out that siblings of heirs in other monarchies often balance royal duties with personal pursuits. “Why should one of the oldest monarchies in the world still think we’re living in the 18th century?”
he questioned. He even cited Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, as examples within the British royal family itself.
With the possibility of a reconciliation between father and son, Turner suggests King Charles could reconsider Harry’s original proposal. He emphasized Charles’ coronation vow to be a king for everyone, stating, “I think he needs to show that now in reconciliation, even with what Harry and Meghan have done.” While Turner doesn’t condone all of the Sussexes’ actions, he believes they, too, have received some bad advice, particularly regarding their public relations strategy.
