Brian Vaughan, whose career in law enforcement began in 1998, will start his tenure as the new Police Chief of Huntersville next Monday. Vaughan has been with the Huntersville Police Department since 2001 and expressed a sense of surrealism about his upcoming role, “Maybe it will all come rushing in when I am sworn in by the Mayor at the next board meeting, but this position didn’t always feel like a possibility for me when I was younger,” Vaughan admitted in a statement obtained by the town’s communications, as reported by the Town of Huntersville’s official announcement.
Originally from California, Vaughan moved to North Carolina during his middle school years, eventually laying down roots in Huntersville with his fianceé at the time, drawn by the community’s potential for family life being positioned here was a conscious decision for Vaughan who, before commencing his stretch with the Huntersville force, undertook Basic Law Enforcement Training and served at the Wilkesboro Police Department. Vaughan climbed the ranks from patrol officer to K9 unit member, progressing to Traffic Sergeant and eventually ascending to the assistant chief role in 2022, he has worn many hats in the department, and for Vaughan, the crux of it all has been the chance to serve the Huntersville community—a sentiment he reiterated, “Serving others is what got me into policing, and I have really enjoyed doing that in the Huntersville community for 24 years,” Vaughan told the town’s publication.
