Ex-Vanderburgh County aide accused of financial crimes seeks probation Friday

EVANSVILLE — Breaking her silence through her lawyer, the former high-ranking Vanderburgh County judicial employee who has admitted to a series of financial crimes has asked for probation.

Regene Newman — former finance director in the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office and business director of Vanderburgh County Community Corrections — “suffers from some mental health conditions” and is under the care of a local psychologist, according to a sentencing memorandum filed by her attorney on Wednesday.

Newman is set to be sentenced at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, in Evansville’s federal courthouse on a charge of wire fraud…
