Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees votes to keep middle school discipline clerk on administrative leave

LUBBOCK, Texas — A level three grievance hearing had kept an O.L. Slaton Middle School discipline clerk on administrative leave by the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees over an incident from April 3.

The incident was a physical altercation between Lewis and a middle schooler. After Lewis had checked the student’s ID badge and the student refused to give him his name, the student tried to go upstairs it started to escalate quickly.

“So, in order to keep him from doing that, I blocked him off,” Lewis said. “[The student] took his arm, forced it through my chest. I started trying to put him in restraint. He walked off to the back to one of the sides by the library, started elbowing me in the chest, punching me in the chest, hit me in the sternum, and I’m like, okay, this is the only way I could get him. Like I said, putting him in a CPR hold, I couldn’t do it. So, I put him in a PRT where I tried to restrain him right here and right here.”
