Bear Attack Interrupts Morning Jog

Kenai, Alaska – A woman was seriously injured Tuesday morning after being attacked by a bear near her driveway during a jog. Kenai police responded to the incident at approximately 6:58 a.m. following a report from a neighbor who discovered the victim.

The 36-year-old woman had left her home around 5:45 a.m. for her morning run. The attack occurred shortly thereafter, close to her driveway.

The neighbor immediately contacted authorities, and the victim was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Anchorage. Details regarding the extent of her injuries and current condition have not been released.

Authorities, including Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Kenai Police, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, conducted a thorough search of the area using both ground crews and a drone, but the bear remains at large. Increased patrols are underway, and residents are urged to exercise caution while outdoors.

The incident occurred near the vast Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, a nearly 2-million-acre preserve known for its diverse wildlife population. The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
