Pelicans headed back to Carolina League playoffs after locking up second-half title

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are headed back to the Carolina League playoffs for the first time since 2023 after shutting out the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Thursday.

The 7-0 win locked up the league’s second-half South Division title for the Pelicans, who will face off against the Columbia Fireflies in a best two-out-of-three series starting on Sept. 9 at Pelicans Ballpark. The winner will play for the league championship starting on Sept. 14 against the North Division champion.

The Pelicans, who finished last in the first-half standings, own a 40-16 second-half record and are 65-55 overall. After winning the first-half title with a 36-30 record, Columbia currently sits in last place in the second-half standings with a 24-31 mark…
