In June of this year, the lives of many Texan students were changed by Texas lawmakers. House Bill 1481, otherwise known as the Texas phone ban, seeks to implement a policy prohibiting the use of personal communication devices by students on school property during school hours.
The House Bill 1418 goes into effect Sept. 1, 2025; however, many schools started restricting students from using their phones the day that their new school year began. The bill limits the usage of all personal communication devices, including cellphones, earbuds and smartwatches. The motivation behind this? To promote a more focused, distraction-free learning environment that supports students.
“I’ve noticed that when the phones are gone, the students are more engaged and it’s easier to teach,” audio-video production teacher Michael Logan said. “I have seen an increase in productivity, actually, because students are not as distracted by their phones.”…
