List of Massachusetts fairs and events this Labor Day weekend

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – If you’re not heading out of town this holiday weekend, several events are happening right here in western Massachusetts.

Plan ahead: AAA predicts busy roads for Labor Day weekend

Labor Day first began as a push from labor activists in the United States and was first formally recognized by municipalities in the late 1800s. Then, the push began toward state recognition, with Massachusetts being among the first five states to pass bills recognizing the day.

By 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday of September a legal holiday. Since then, it meant barbeques, beach days, and one last chance to enjoy summer before heading into the fall.
